Paul was in jail and beaten the first time he was in Philippi (Ac.16). When he writes to Philippi, he is in bonds in a house and in conflict again (Phil. 1:30). Yet, he writes of joy in the Lord! Amazing!

Satisfaction in the contentment of Christ (4:10-20) – those who are discontent are never truly happy
