FIELD HOCKEY
2
Field hockey Field hockey team sport in which a team of players attempt to score goals by hitting, pushing or flicking the ball with hockey sticks into the opposing team's goal. The game is played between two teams of up to sixteen players, eleven of whom are permitted to be on the pitch at any one time.

HISTORY Nobody really knows the exact date field hockey began, although 4,000-year-old drawings have been found in the tomb of Beni-Hasen in the Nile Valley of Egypt indicating that men were playing a sport that experts are almost positive was field hockey. Throughout the centuries, different variations of the game have been played by many different cultures, such as Greeks, Romans, Ethiopians and Aztecs.
