2 Excretory System Every cell in the body produces metabolic waste.
Skin, lungs, and kidneys make up this system.

3 Function SKIN LUNGS Excretes water, salts, small amounts of nitrogenous wastes Excretes water vapor and CO2

4 Function: Urinary System
Formation and excretion of urine Urine is mostly water, keeps wastes dissolved and easier to excrete Involves Kidneys and Bladder

5 Steps: Filtration Blood forced into kidneys
Urea, wastes, and various substances are removed

6 Steps: ReAbsorption Some substances are return to blood; maintain balance Ex. Salts

7 Steps: Elimination Waste (urine) is stored in bladder until it is secreted through the urethra

8 Urine Waste removed from the blood by the kidneys
Contains urea, water, salt Very light yellow color

9 What Urine Tells Us Kidney Damage - Proteins may leak into the urine
Dark Yellow color - dehydration Brown color - bleeding from the kidneys High Glucose - the individual is diabetic Low or no glucose - hypoglycemia, which results from too much insulin
