What is a mission challenge?
There are seven different types of mission challenges: In one of the seven areas, choose a community problem and work with your small group to solve the problem using the scientific method or engineering
5
Which type of mission folder should we create?
The Scientific Method/Inquiry requires a controlled experiment Independent, Dependent and Control variables are used The Engineering requires you to build a prototype The prototype is then tested to see validity
6
Look for science, math, and technology in unlikely places!
What are you and your group passionate about?

Are You Ready To Accept the Challenge?
Apparently, Heidelberg Middle School was ready to accept the challenge. Teams were formed quickly and so were ideas. These ideas were based on problems in the world and in their community, and teams had to come up with a way to solve these problems.

THEIR IDEA Animal Lover’s idea was to have an animal shelter on base. These sixth-grade girls found plenty of articles supporting that animals were being abandoned on base by military owners because of deployments or moving reasons. Animal Lovers handed out a survey and received supporting results. They created a website, brochure, PowerPoint, and a business card. All of these things were attached in their Mission Folder. All questions were answered carefully with detail. After finishing their work, they submitted their Mission Folder, and on April 11, they found out what award they won!

WHAT DID THEY WIN??? The Animal Lovers team, as well as the 7th grade team from Heidelberg Middle School, were both Criteria Winners, from the SouthEast Region. Animal Lovers scored the highest in Team Collaboration and Communication. Their advisor, Dr. Burcham, or Rick Burcham, was very excited, as well as the 4 girls! Now what did they win? Each girl wins a $2,000 savings bond!
