Chemical Reactions
2
5 types of reactions: Combination/Synthesis Decomposition
Combustion Single Displacement Double Displacement
3
A combination reaction occurs when two or more reactants combine to form a single product.
A + B C Examples: Na + Cl2 NaCl Na2O + H2O NaOH
4
A Decomposition reaction occurs when a single reactant breaks down (decomposes) into two or more products. A B + C Examples: H2O H2 + O2 H2CO3 H2O + CO2
5
A single displacement reaction occurs when a single, more reactive element or group replaces a less reactive element or group. A + BC AC + B Examples: Zn + CuSO4 ZnSO4 + Cu Al + HCl AlCl3 + H2
6
Practice Mg + Fe2O3 Fe + MgO Single Displacement
7
Practice PbSO4 PbSO3 + O2 Decomposition
8
Practice NH3 + I2 N2I6 + H2 Single Displacement
9
Practice H2O + SO3 H2SO4 Combination
