Confucius was a scholar, teacher, philosopher and politician
Respect for authority and universal order are core beliefs
Rulers responsible to provide good government
Not interested in spiritual matters, a system of beliefs concerned with worldly goals- philosophy book “The Analects”

3. Concerned about social order, good government, justice
Most important duty: filial piety- respect for parents
Duty and humanity are key moral values

4. Daoism Founder- Lao Tzu (old master) Dao- the way
Not concerned with human affairs, but living in harmony with nature

5. Reject conflict, virtue of yielding
Wu-wei (non-action)
the universe works harmoniously according to its own ways, humans exert their will upon the world they disrupt the harmony
Simple ways of nature- some became hermits, poets, artists

Culture- the behaviors, beliefs, and values that are shared among a certain group of people.
