Understanding “The Law” (1 Timothy 1:8)
Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law. For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These—and other such commandments —are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law. Rom. 13:8-10 But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, Inquisition: Law-Breakers How is the Law “Good” ? For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "you shall love your neighbor as yourself." Paul’s Discovery I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service, even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief; and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 1:11-14
