2. Welcome
Welcome to Westminster Primary School’s Christmas Carol Concert. We are Key Stage 2 – that means years 3, 4, 5 & 6 – and we would like to share some Christmas spirit through poetry, songs and readings. We hope you enjoy it!

3. We celebrate Christmas to remind us of God’s love for the world
We celebrate Christmas to remind us of God’s love for the world. It represents the time when he sent his only son down to live among us on Earth. Every year, we spread the message of his love, so it only seems right that we start with this song…

4. GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN
While shepherds kept their watching O’er silent flocks by night Behold throughout the heavens There shone a holy light.
The shepherds feared and trembled,
When lo above the Earth
Rang out the angel chorus
That hailed our saviour’s birth.
Down in a lowly manger The humble Christ was born And brought us God's salvation That blessed Christmas morn.
CHORUS:
Go tell it on the mountain Over the hills and everywhere. Go tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born.

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Emmanuel.

6. MARY’S BOY CHILD
Mary's boy child Jesus Christ, was born on Christmas Day. and man will live for evermore, because of Christmas Day. Long time ago in Bethlehem, so the Holy Bible say, Mary's boy child Jesus Christ, was born on Christmas Day. Hark, now hear the angels sing, a king was born today, and man will live for evermore,

Mary's boy child Jesus Christ, was born on Christmas Day. While shepherds watch their flock by night, they see a brand new shining star. They hear a choir sing a song, the music seem to come from afar.

9. Reading: Matthew 1:18-25
An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.”

10. Reading: Luke 2:9-12 An angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; they were terribly frightened. The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid: behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people. For today, in the city of David, there has been born for you a Saviour who is Christ the Lord.

12. WHILE SHEPHERDS WATCHED THEIR FLOCKS BY NIGHT
While shepherds watched their flocks by night, All seated on the ground, The angel of the Lord came down, And glory shone around. "Fear not," said he, for mighty dread Had seized their troubled minds; “Glad tidings of great joy I bring To you and all mankind.”

15. Reading: Luke 2:15-16
When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, "Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us." So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.

17. 12 Days of Christmas
It is believed that the three kings took 12 days to reach Jesus Christ’s birth place, and that is why we say “12 Days of Christmas”.

22. Traditional Colours
Traditional colours for this holiday are red, green and gold and they have meanings – green (eternal life), red (blood of Jesus) and gold (royalty).

O little town of Bethlehem How still we see Thee lie. Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by. Yet in Thy dark streets shineth The everlasting Light. The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in Thee tonight. O morning stars together Proclaim the holy birth. And praises sing to God the King And Peace to men on Earth. 25. Christmas Carols
The songs sung during Christmas are called Christmas carols. During Christmas, children and adult go door to door singing carols. One of the most famous carols of all time is “Silent Night”.

31. WE THREE KINGS
We three kings of Orient are Bearing gifts we traverse afar. Field and fountain, moor and mountain, Following yonder star: Born a king on Bethlehem plain, Gold I bring to crown Him again - King forever, ceasing never, Over us all to reign: Frankincense to offer have I; Incense owns a Deity nigh: Prayer and praising, all men raising, Worship Him, God most high:
O star of wonder, star of night, Star with royal beauty bright, Westward leading, still proceeding, Guide us to Thy perfect light.

32. Myrrh is mine: its bitter perfume Breaths a life of gathering gloom; Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying, Sealed in the stone-cold tomb: Glorious now, behold Him arise, King, and God, and Sacrifice! Heav’n sings Alleluia, Alleluia the earth replies:

mince pies are sold in the UK with an average of 27 consumed per person during the Christmas period.

34. RUDOLF THE RED NOSED REINDEER

35. Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer  had a very shiny nose.  And if you ever saw it,  you would even say it glows.  All of the other reindeer  used to laugh and call him names.  They never let poor Rudolph  join in any reindeer games. 
Then one foggy Christmas Eve  Santa came to say:  "Rudolph with your
nose so bright,  won't you guide my
sleigh tonight?"  Then how the reindeer
loved him  as they shouted out
with glee; “Rudolph the red-nosed
reindeer,  you'll go down in history!” 

36. Y3 Poem: A Chubby Snowman Anon
A chubby little snowman  had a carrot nose.  Along came a bunny,  and what do you suppose? 
That hungry little bunny,  looking for some lunch,  Grabbed that snowman’s nose,  Nibble, nibble, crunch!

37. FROSTY THE SNOWMAN Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul
with a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal.
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say.
He was made of snow but the children know how he came to life one day.
There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found For when they placed it on his head he began to dance around.
Oh Frosty the snowman was alive as he could be And the children say he could laugh and play just the same as you and me
Frosty the snowman knew the sun was hot that day So he said let's run and we'll have some fun now before I melt away.
Down to the village with a broomstick in his hand Running here and there all around the square saying Catch me if you can.
He led them down the streets of town right to the traffic cop And he only paused a moment when he heard him holler "Stop!“
For Frosty the snow man had to hurry on his way But he waved goodbye saying Don't you cry I'll be back again some day.

38. Y4 Poem: The Grinch Dr Seuss
And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow,  Stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so?  It came without ribbons. It came without tags.  It came without packages, boxes or bags.  And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore.  Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before.  What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store?  What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?

Now the ground is white, Go it while you're young, Take the girls tonight And sing this sleighing song.
Just get a bobtail bay Two forty for his speed,
Then hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you'll take the lead. Hey!

Oh what fun it is to ride

in a one-horse open sleigh.

41. ‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS Clement Clarke Moore
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads. And mamma in her ’kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

42. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow  Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.  When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,  But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer. 
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,  I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.  More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,  And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name! 
“Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!  On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen!  To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!  Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!” 

43. As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,  When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.  So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,  With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too. 
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof  The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.  As I drew in my head, and was turning around,  Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound. 
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,  And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.  A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,  And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack. 

44. His eyes-how they twinkled. His dimples how merry
His eyes-how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!  His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!  His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,  And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow. 
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,  And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.  He had a broad face and a little round belly,  That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly! 
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,  And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!  A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,  Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. 

45. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,  And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.  And laying his finger aside of his nose,  And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose! 
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,  And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.  But I heard him exclaim, ’ere he drove out of sight,  “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”
