SYNOPSIS In the 1960 campaign, Lyndon B. Johnson was elected Vice President as John F. Kennedy’s running mate.On November 23, 1963, when Kennedy was assassinated, Johnson was sworn in as the 36th United States President with a vision to build “A Great Society” for the American people

CIVIL RIGHTS ACTS (1964) VOTING RIGHTS ACTS (1965)
, This is a landmark piece of civil rights legislation in the United States that outlawed discrimination based on color, race, religion, sex or national origin. VOTING RIGHTS ACTS (1965) This is a landmark piece of federal legislation in the United States that prohibits racial discrimination in voting. AFFIRMATIVE ACTION (1965) This tends to focus on issues such as education and employment, specifically granting consideration to racial minorities, Native Americans and womens who have been historically excluded groups in America.

ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY ACTS (1964)
This is a United States Public Law that authorized the formation of local Community Action Agencies as part of the WAR ON POVERTY. It is the purpose of the Economic Opportunity Act to strengthen, supplement, and coordinate efforts in furtherance of that policy.

MEDICARE ACT (1965) This is a national social insurance program, administered by the U.S. federal government since 1966, currently using about 30 private insurance companies across the United States. Medicare provides health insurance for Americans aged 65 and older who have worked and paid into the system. It also provides health insurance to younger people with disabilities, end stage renal disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION ACT (1965)
This changed the way quotas were allocated by ending National Origins formula that had been in place in the United States since the Emergency Quota Act of 1921.It is a new immigration policy based on reuniting immigrant families and attracting skilled labor to the United States. It is also known as the Hart-Celler Act

ELECTION OF 1964 (BARRY GOLDWATER)
This began when United States Senator Barry Goldwater of Arizona elected to seek the Republican Party nomination for President of the United States to challenge incumbent Democratic President Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1964, he fought and won a bitterly contested, multi- candidate race for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination.

There were bills voting rights to southern blacks. This ended guaranteeing racial discrimination in public accommodations. Providing federal aid to education for the first time. This Created the Medicare system to help America's hard-pressed senior citizens. This Set aside millions of acres of new parkland and wilderness There were 2,230 colleges in 1965 and 3,026 just 10 years later, most of them built in part with Great Society funds.

GULF OF TONKIN(1964) This involved what was originally claimed to be two separate confrontations involving North Vietnam and the United States in the waters of the Gulf of Tonkins. It is also known as the USS Maddox Incident. On 2nd August, 1964, North Vietnamese patrol torpedo boats attacked the USS Maddox while the destroyer was in international waters in the Gulf of Tonkins.

ESCALATION OF THE WAR (1965-1968)
In early August 1964, two U.S. destroyers stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam radioed that they had been fired by North Vietnam.This resolution became the legal basis for the Johnson and Nixon Administration's prosecution of the Vietnam War.He wanted a heavy bombing campaign against North Vietnam, to curtail Hanoi’s support for the Viet Cong.In January 1965, a week after his inauguration,Johnson authorised the relocation of US planes from Okinawa to Da Nang. Military planes had already drawn up a long list of North Vietnamese targets: military bases, munitions dumps, fuel storage depots and critical infrastructure.
