4. Review: Digital citizenship Survey Results for social networking
Of the grade 8 students from our school that were surveyed anonymously online:
75% (30) have Facebook accounts
75% (30) have Instagram accounts
70% (28) have Snap Chat accounts
40% (16) have Twitter accounts
45.2% (19) share photos/video of themselves

31% (13) have social media accounts that they keep secret from the family & friends
23.8% (10) report interacting with strangers online every week or more
12% (3) report that others have shared or posted images or video of themselves engaging in illegal, sexual, or inappropriate behaviour

7. How to access the program
Log in to Learn Now BC ( using Chrome and username/password given on journal
Click on Passport to the Internet icon , in Media Smarts page click on licensed agreement link for Passport to the Internet (English)
Type in usernames (case sensitive, must use same username each time, must use same username as Learn Now BC eg: lia.larson)
Select grade level (senior)
Select Avatar
In the Train Station- click on Ticket Booth

9. Why do you need to be careful about what you post online?
Information online is permanent and public!
What can you do to improve your safety and privacy on your social media accounts?
Choose a profile picture that is a cartoon or does not give any clues about where you live and go to school
Use an address and profile name that does not include your real name
Do not use your real address, , or phone number
Set your privacy settings to high, do not allow your profile to be searched by a search engine, only allow “friends” to see and post onto your profile
