Case 1 Mrs. Parker is a 60 year-old woman with type 2 diabetes. She has an LDL cholesterol level of 160 mg/dL, HDL cholesterol level of 60 mg/dL, and a total cholesterol level of 240 mg/dL, which has not changed with diet. Her average blood pressure readings are 135/80 mmHg, and she does not smoke. She comes to the consultation wondering if she should take a statin. She does not have a history of any cardiovascular event.
