Tissues Lab Bio – Cell Project
2
What is a tissue? A tissue is a group of cells that have a similar shape and function. Different types of tissues can be found in different organs.
3
4 Types of Tissue Epithelial Muscular Nervous Connective
4
I. Epithelial Tissue Cells of this tissue can be thin and flat, cubic, or elongated. Covers the body surface (skin) Lines most internal cavities Main functions: Protection Secretion Absorption Filtration Found in: skin, digestive system, respiratory system, etc

Epithelial Tissue 1. Stratified Squamous
2. Simple columnar (elongated with 1 nucleus) 3. Simple Squamous (kidney) 4. Simple Cuboidal (kidney)

II. Muscular Tissue Muscle tissue can either be voluntary or involuntary Voluntary: you can control it on your own Involuntary: you can’t control it on your own There are 3 types of muscular tissue: Skeletal: used in contractions of the skeletal system Smooth: found in walls of internal organs and blood vessels Cardiac: only found in walls of heart, involuntary
8
CARDIAC SMOOTH SKELETAL
9
III. Nervous Tissue Composed of specialized cells which receive stimuli and conduct impulses to and from all parts of the body Nerve cells are called neurons

IV. Connective Tissue Most abundant tissue in the body
Has a variety of functions Support and protection Fat (adipose) tissue Loose connective tissue Dense fibrous tissue Cartilage Bone Blood
