1. About Ms. Hinshelwood
-Graduated from Appalachian University I truly enjoy coming to school each day to work with students and to make sure my students reach their full potential. All students are capable of learning; however, not every student learns the same way. I plan my lessons using multiple teaching strategies so I can reach all learners. I look forward to working with you this year to make sure your child excels academically and socially.

3. About Our Class
I spend time at the beginning of the year working to build a community in the classroom. We discuss respect, making good choices, and taking responsibility for our actions. By creating a positive classroom community, I feel for each student will thrive academically and socially. We also spend time practicing our daily procedures. I want the students to know exactly what is expected of them daily. Furthermore, I want the students to know what the consequences will be when they do not follow our class procedures.

5. Homework
Every night students will receive homework except on Fridays. This will include math and reading. All homework is due the next day. They will also need to study nightly for tests that week.

6. Data Binder
Graded papers are sent home each Friday in their data notebook. Included in this binder will be information about student behavior, student assessments, and other school information. Behavior forms should be signed weekly and returned to school. The papers in the pocket can be left at home, but all assessments hole punched need to stay in the data binder.

8. Some things that we will be learning this year
Reading- inferring, theme, summarize, text structure, point of view Writing- informative, narrative, research, opinion Science- force and motion, matter, energy, weather, ecosystems, genetics, human growth and development (Feb.) Math- multiplication, division, fractions, place value, patterns, and measurement SS- economics, history of U.S. up to Civil War

Please initial your child’s agenda each night. I ask you to do this so you can see any notes from me and your child’s homework for that night. I do try to , but always don’t get the chance.

14. SNACK TIME
Students are allowed to bring snacks to school on a daily basis. Students must provide their own healthy snack. Please don’t send candy or messy food for snack time. Students may keep a water bottle in the classroom.

Tardies (must walk student in)-Student instructional Day starts at 9:15
Food policy-Has to be store bought
Birthday invitations/treats- not allowed to send invitations or thank you cards through student bookbag.
