Comparing & Contrasting Rhetoric: Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Sojourner Truth
STEP 1: Read, annotate, and discuss each speech with your group/partners. Treat your annotations like a SOAPSTone and rhetorical analysis graphic organizer -- for example, include elements such as examples of tone, diction, rhetorical appeals, purpose, etc. in addition to annotations you would normally make. STEP 2: Complete the graphic organizer to compare/contrast the two speeches and their treatment of the common theme. You are NOT just focused on subject matter, you are looking at the speakers’ use of rhetoric. Write one solid rhetorical analysis paragraph. Turn this in Tomorrow (Wednesday)- meet in the 301 Lab. We will do a constructed response for the Touchstones and then you will do an activity on one of the speeches we have read so far.
