1 ROTOM UK ANNUAL REPORT

2 SENIOR FRIENDSHIP SCHEME
We support 38 elderly people who now have Spiritual and social support Access to free medical care Bimonthly fellowship meetings Support with food, housing and dependant children Health education and food sustainability advice Regular visits from field workers Though they benefit from all this many still lack the basics for healthy dignified living !!!!!

3 SO MUCH NEED! SO FEW RESOURCES!
This is a serious problem. Meeting the needs from the monthly sponsorship budget is a growing challenge. Due to the raise in cost of living it is just not enough. How can this shortfall be addressed? FLT to decide on basic essentials covered by friendship scheme Develop special projects to cover the rest.

4 Example of shortfall: Maria’s story
Maria was diagnosed last year with advanced cervical cancer. Realistically there was no active treatment, neither chemotherapy nor radiotherapy being available for her. Palliative care was needed but her monthly support did not run to the costly drugs she would need to make her last days as comfortable and dignified as possible. A lady of 89 from Devon read about her need and donated money for her care. She was nursed in her home and a palliative care team were able to support Maria and her family until she died a few months ago.

5 A letter from Maria

6 SANITATION One year ago we were made aware of this fact:
27 out of our 35 supported seniors did not have access to even the most basic sanitation. However hard we work with ROTOM to improve their health unless we get this right disease will continue to thrive! Since then we have made this a priority in our fundraising. YOU HAVE DONE SO WELL!!!! 11 new pit latrines have been built 5 more have been funded and construction is in progress 11 to go can we do it by Christmas 2018???

7 THIS IS HOW MUCH IT MEANS!
Translation Dear Paul & Gill Warm greetings to you dear friends in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! How is your life and work? I thank you for the work that you are able to do. How are your children and grandchildren? Let me hope that you are all in good health. I have also been okay and happy together with my wife and the grandchild. My wife is so grateful for what you are able to do for us as a family without any hesitation. I take this opportunity to appreciate you for all the good things that you have done for me this year. I thank you with much joy for the pit latrine that you constructed for me. Thank you so much dear friends. My latrine is looking so nice with a sit on; my legs had become so weak to bend them while squatting. My family and I pray that God reward you with much more. I thank you for all the medical support that you give me; whenever I get ill I get treatment on time. However much my legs are still hurting, at least there is an improvement. I am really grateful and God bless you. Your friend, Yokana Kalule Ssalongo

10 CHRISTMAS IS COMING! DON’T PANIC!
Proposed gift for Christmas 2018 is a radio. Radio is a lifeline for many people in poor countries, who may have little other contact with the world outside their village. Relieves loneliness and boredom in the long hours of darkness. Type of radio wind up/solar not determined yet. This dual wind and solar one is around £20
