2 TIMELINE 2016 Lenovo Yoga’s 2019 BYODD Devices owned by parents 2013
Rental program 2013 IPADS fully funded by DDR Aust Govt initiative 2019 BYODD Devices owned by parents

3 WHY BYODD? extension of current device program a step closer to providing greater flexibility for parents ICT important part of learning including beyond the classroom parents and students are responsible for their own device education more interactive and engaging many schools are now moving towards BYODD cost associated with schools running their own programs is extremely costly – device cost plus ongoing management costs. redirect resources to learning and teaching programs

4 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS IS ON OUR WEBSITE

5 HANDBOOK provides all of the information that you need to know about the program frequently asked questions device specifications Winthrop provided devices

6 AGREEMENT Why do we have to sign a new agreement?
Importance of agreement acceptable uses unacceptable uses care of device fault damage and loss Sent out via Caremonkey

7 WHY DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO HAVE A LAPTOP FOR USE AT SCHOOL?
Use of electronic devices is now an integral part of curriculum Students without a device cannot participate in learning at the same level as a student with a device Access to resources can happen outside of school Conditional on continued enrolment TCC is not the only school with a BYODD program - common for all secondary colleges to have a similar program

8 WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF PURCHASING THROUGH THE WINTHROP PORTAL?
Device is pre-ordered and will be delivered to the College Device will have Windows 10 installed and be ready for families to download the full suite of Microsoft Office 365 and anti-virus software for free Device has 3 years warranty as well as battery warranty – can purchase additional warranty On site technician at the College Price includes 3 years accidental damage insurance 6 months interest free option is available. It is important to read the fine print in any finance arrangements. Particularly note sign up fees and post interest free period interest rate.

9 WHAT HAPPENS IF I CHOOSE NOT TO BUY VIA THE WITHROP PORTAL
Device purchased must meet the specification requirements as outlined in the handbook Before purchasing elsewhere you need to consider return policy warranty – how long does it last and what does it cover repair – proximity of repairer, cost, length of time, collection process Insurance – very important

10 WE ALREADY OWN A MAC BOOK THAT MEETS SPECIFICATIONS – CAN THIS BE USED?
Yes only provided it is running Windows 10 for MacBook Consideration needs to be given to the cost of running add-on software such as Parallels. The cost of running the subscription software, Parallels, on MacBook is approx $110. Approximate cost to buy Windows 10 Home or Professional edition license $229-$339. Highly recommended that 3 years apple care (warranty) is purchased approx cost $299. Like all non Winthrop purchased laptops, MacBooks cannot be repaired on site. They will need to be taken to an authorised Apple repairer particularly if the device is covered under warranty.

11 DO STUDENTS IN YEAR 7 NEED THE SAME TYPE OF LAPTOP AS STUDENTS IN YEAR 10 OR HIGHER?
Generally those students in lower year levels will have less need of a laptop that has high end capabilities (i.e. the more expensive models) Consideration needs to be given to the learning needs of those students who study specialised subjects such as VCD and some art subjects. Each student will have different needs
