3 Types of CPR Adult – Puberty and older Child – 1 year – Puberty
2 hand Compressions Child – 1 year – Puberty 1 or 2 hand compressions Infant – 0-1 years 2 finger compressions

Infant CPR sequence Is the scene safe? Check for a Response Call 911
Tap feet “Are you Okay?” Call 911 If alone, perform 1-2 minutes of CPR, then call 911 If with someone, tell them to call 911 immediately

Infant CPR continued Check for any signs of circulation
Breathing, moving Begin Compressions

Infant Compressions (C)
Use 2 fingers Place fingers at center of chest, perform 30 compressions Compress chest at least 1/3 depth of the chest Compress chest at the rate of at LEAST 100 compressions per minute Do a “High Quality” compression Our compression is only 20% of what the heart can do…so it must be done correctly

High Quality Compression
Push Hard Push Fast Allow full chest recoil Minimize interruptions Avoid excessive breaths

Open Airway (A) Head tilt chin lift

Breathing (B) Cover infant mouth and nose with your mouth
Hold open airway Give 2 puffs of breaths…make the chest rise Repeat cycles of CAB until EMS arrives and stops you

Infant Choking Alternate “back slaps” and “chest compressions” until they “Pop or Drop” If “Drop”, call 911, begin CPR Check mouth before breathing
