2 What is a SmartBoard? A “SMART Board” is both a brand name and a generic term used to describe interactive whiteboards designed to provide touch control of computer applications. Pen tray on the front of the interactive whiteboard that holds four plastic pen tools and an eraser. The pen tools have neither electronic components nor ink: the technology is in the pen tray. When a pen tool is removed from its slot in the tray, an optical sensor recognizes its absence.

Useful for all grade levels to beneficial for kinesthetic students Lessons can be recorded for students to review Capture and hold the attention of visual and auditory learners Promote Interactivity Adaptive appeal Beneficial for students who are partially sighted and hard of hearing students Built-In Gallery and Lesson Search

4 Drawbacks Most classrooms who have adopted SmartBoards have had to retrofit to make them work, making for awkward placement in the classroom. Teachers try to force everything into a SmartBoard lesson. Student Expectations? Learning Curve?
