Why Cite? Ethical and professional speakers give credit to the sources that helped the speaker be successful with the speech. If the speaker does not do this, it is plagiarism. A speaker will not be given credit for a speech which is plagiarized.

Okay, so what’s a Citation?
Telling your audience where you got your information. What should I cite in my speech? Author’s name Source – magazine, book, newspaper, main web site “Article title” or “web page” Date of publication
4
When should I give a Citation?
Anytime the following are mentioned: Fact Example Statistic Quotations Any idea that is not yours that you reword from a source Anything taken word for word from a source
5
Fine. Do you have examples?
According to Robert Benedetti in his book The Actor in You which was published in 2006 ,there are 16 simple steps to understanding the art of acting. “The function of everything that happens before the crisis is to lead toward it with rising energy.” Robert Benedetti explains this acting tip in his 2006 book entitled The Actor in You. Robert Benedetti states: “…As useful as emotional recalls and substitutions may sometimes be, they can also be dangerous.” This quotation was taken from his 2006 book, The Actor in You.

Anything else? If a source has been cited once, the speaker may abbreviate the citation later by stating: “This information came from the Robert Benedetti book which I cited earlier.”
