Keynote by Dr. David Vawter Energizing Middle School Students: Motivation Theory into Practice 16 Sessions Middle School Visit – Greenville Early College Networking & Collaborative Partnerships Proceedings - CIMLE is in the process of publishing the symposium proceedings

6 2018 SE POMLE Symposium Post-Survey
Survey Response rate: 29% (14/49) Name one idea you gained that you may utilize in your work with MLE. Themes in responses: value in collaboration and publishing, specific strategies to implement in classrooms, and philosophical discussions about Middle Level Education Collaborating with colleagues Be strategic about publishing Clinical experience ideas Conducting an observation focused on curriculum (challenging, integrative, relevant, and exploratory) Sharing of case studies Understanding how to approach teaching undergraduates what embracing diversity means More literacy on diversity Meet students where they are A better understanding of interdisciplinary units TILT Boxes Technology integration The middle school mindset The importance of the middle school concept in schools

7 2018 SE POMLE Symposium Post-Survey
Survey Response rate: 29% (14/49) Regarding the whole experience, what did you want more of? Author sessions Break-out sessions; More slots for presentations (There were presentations that I wanted to attend, but I had to select one.) More for preservice teachers Developmentally responsive teaching practices I loved the workshop writing time. More structure and time devoted to writing An opportunity for more collegial conversation would be nice---a forum, of sorts, for being able to bring up issues in middle level teacher education and have productive talk about how to deal with these situations. How are other institutions handling issues? (e.g. Increased mental stress that takes a huge toll on pre-service candidates.) Time to talk with colleagues I loved the school visit and would have loved to talk more with the teachers and students. I think if we made it a point to get back together or create a touching base network, asking...how are you? What are you doing? Might be fun...create a social media connection.
