But our activities are also posted on the SSAA website for ALL to see : Students Parents Coaches Teachers We also have a very good relationship with the Athletics Clubs within the County. They too are informed of our activities so they can inform their Athletes / Parents / Coaches

Keep asking your teachers for information about : Cross-Country Track & Field Combined Events (and Race Walking) Because the first step on the ladder is to be entered by your school into your Area Championships. Having had their championships the Area selects a team to compete at the SSAA County Championships – that’s when you start to meet us.

International School Area County SW Nats 46 counties Dorset Gloucestershire Wiltshire Avon Cornwall Devon Mendip Sedgemoor Taunton Yeovil Progression from school athlete to international athlete is slightly different for each of the disciplines as outlined in the following pages. Within the county there are four Areas whilst within the South-West Region there are six other counties. At national level counties are divided into 4 groups: A, B, C and D on the basis of recent performance at the ESAA Track and Field Championships. Somerset, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire are C Group counties; Cornwall is in Group D and Avon and Devon are in Group B. Somerset is the sixth smallest county in the country. The Schools’ International Athletic Board (SIAB) organises the Home International matches which are hosted by the 4 countries in turn. In most years Somerset has an athlete in an England team — in many years more than one. In 2017 Somerset had five England representatives.

South-West Championships
After the County Championships we select teams to compete at the: South-West Championships There is a limit to the number of athletes we can select : Cross- Country – age group teams of 10 Whole team of 80 athletes Maximum of 70 competitors per event Track & Field – a maximum of 3 competitors per event A maximum of 130 competitor places Giving usually a whole team of about 115 athletes Maximum of 21 competitors per event Combined Events – age group teams of 4 Whole team of 24 Maximum of 32 competitors per event Plus Race Walk competitors

ESAA National Championships.
Following the SW Championships we select teams to compete at the ESAA National Championships. There is a limit to the number of athletes we can select : Cross- Country – age group teams of 8 Whole team of 48 athletes Maximum of 368 per event Track & Field – a maximum of 3 competitors per event Whole team of 32 athletes Usually no more than 24 competitors per event Combined Events – SW winning age group teams of 4 plus high placed individuals not in winning team Maximum of 46 competitors per event plus Race Walkers
