IB, MYP, and the Unit planner

Todays Outcome Teaching Professionals will be able to examine best teaching practices and correlate them to the IB MYP curriculum requirements.

Objective: Complete the 24 piece puzzle as quickly as possible.
Puzzle Activity Objective: Complete the 24 piece puzzle as quickly as possible. Group A: You will be given a puzzle in the box and asked to complete the puzzle together as a group. Please do not start until all groups have received the puzzle pieces. Group B: You will be given a puzzle in a bag and asked to complete the puzzle individually at your tables. Please do not start until all groups have received the puzzle pieces.

Were allowed to work collaboratively on the task Had the benefit of end product image to compare pieces to. Image provided on puzzle was familiar to participants Group B Must work individually to plan the arrangement of puzzle pieces Must complete the task without knowing what the end product should look like. Had to work on a puzzle that dealt with an abstract image.

Relationship to Teaching
Collaborative planning Planning for education is better when it can be done collaboratively with your peers. Backwards mapping Teaching is more effective when you teach with the end (assessment) in mind Real world application Application of skills to real world scenarios allows student's to “take” content and use it beyond the walls of the school. Expectations The 8 subject areas will plan ALL units with the end assessment in mind. Backwards mapping is evident in order to support the end assessment task. The end assessment task is graded using the appropriate criterion. Assessment tasks show real world applications to relatable scenarios.
