On June 28, 2012, the United States Supreme Court ruled that many provisions of the Affordable Care Act (the health care law that is referred to as Obamacare) were constitutional, including the controversial “individual mandate,” which requires the uninsured to purchase health insurance. In general, Republicans opposed the act while Democrats supported it.
