Occupational Skills Training
Training which is designed to provide individuals with the technical skills and information required to perform a specific job or group of jobs, and can include on-the-job training Anson AEL Letter 02-16

Skills Upgrading Training provided by an employer or a group of employers to upgrade the skills of employees Anson A TWC Skills Development Grant would be an example of this type of training.

Entrepreneurial Training
Training designed for an individual who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk Anson

Customized Training Designed to meet the specific requirements of an employer Is conducted with a commitment by the employer to employ an individual upon successful completion of training Is paid for by an employer Anson

Registered Apprenticeship Training
As an “earn and learn” strategy, Registered Apprenticeship offers job seekers immediate employment opportunities that pay sustainable wages and offer advancement along a career path Anson

On the Job Training (OJT)
Provided by an employer to a paid participant while engaged in productive work and Provides knowledge or skills essential to the full and adequate performance of the job Provides reimbursement to the employer Anson

Occupational License Awarded by a government- regulated agency
Mandatory for professional practice More heavily regulated Plumber Electrician Registered Nurses (RN) Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Anson - LVN is a term used by Texas and California. Most other states use the term LPN- Licensed Practical Nurse. LVN and LPN are the same. Difference between LVN and RN is length of schooling. AEL Letter 01-18chg 1

Recognized State Occupational Certificates
OSA Certificate Level 1 Certificate Level 2 A credit program of 9-14 semester credit hours or a workforce continuing education program of contact hours. Program must meet the minimum standard for program length specified in the federal Workforce Investment Act, but are too short to qualify as certificate programs on the CB program inventory (CTC CBM00M).* *THECB Glossary of Terms August 2017 A workforce education program of study that consists of at least 15 and no more than 42 semester credit hours (23-63 quarter hours). Level I certificate programs are exempt from the requirements of the Texas Success Initiative, although all certificate programs must provide for local assessment and remediation of students. (CTC CBM009)* A workforce education program of study that consists of at least 43 and no more than 59 semester credit hours (64-89 quarter hours). Awarded by institutions of higher education Must teach the same workforce related content and skills as for-credit postsecondary education and training programs Must be listed in the college’s approved inventory of programs Provide graduates with an official transcript Occupational Skills Award As defined in the THECB Guidelines for Instructional Programs in Workforce Education (GIPWE) Anson
