What is study year abroad? The study year abroad module and what it means; Assessment; Sandwich title and the return to level 3; Studying for your final year at a partner

3 What is study year abroad?
A sandwich year spent at a partner institution; To be eligible for SYA you need to have passed your level 2, you spend the sandwich year on SYA and return to do level 3; SYA is available on all undergraduate degrees across the business side of the Faculty.

6 ‘Learning and Development on Study Year Abroad: UMCD9Y-15-3’
15 credit level 3 module In your final year you study 105 credits i.e. one 15 credit option less. In addition to meeting the requirements of your Learning Agreement with your host institution, the Learning and Development on Study Year Abroad module is assessed by a Portfolio of activities

7 To gain your sandwich title you must:
Meet the requirements of your learning agreement Pass the Learning and Developing on Study Year Abroad module

8 Module Assessments In two parts; Equally weighted;
You must submit both parts.

9 Component A: 50% weighting
Portfolio containing the following: End of semester 1 Personal Review ( words max) End of semester 2 Personal Review ( words max) End of semester 3 Personal Review ( words max) Evidencing personal development from SYA in a Graduate CV (2 pages max) Includes: Gas and electricity UWE bus travel Contents insurance Internet connection Gym membership is an optional extra

10 Component B: 50% weighting
A host country cultural analysis report ( words max) The objective of the host country cultural analysis report is to evidence an engagement with an aspect of the host country’s culture this may be within the context of the host institution or a local company for example. The marker needs to clearly understand the issues being researched, the objectives of the research and the findings.

11 Host country Cross Cultural Analysis Report (1800 to 2000 words)
Host country Cross Cultural Analysis Report (1800 to 2000 words). Students undertake their own project: Example A A report which investigates a local company - the history of the company, its position in the market, its international status (it may be a small company with no international links, if so this must be stated) and whether the management style, structure and customs are culturally bound. Example B A report which investigates an aspect of the host institution in which you are studying and whether the teaching and learning and assessment methods and orientations, structures of the organisation and customs are culturally bound.

12 Your module result As level 3 credits marks from the Learning and Development on Study Year Abroad module may contribute towards your degree classification. See

One of the largest institutions of Higher Education in the Netherlands, welcoming around 200 exchange students every year. Offers a comprehensive induction programme for incoming students, jointly organised with the local Erasmus Student Network. Strong links with employers and industry. Amsterdam The capital of Amsterdam. Famous for its canals, museums, café culture, and cultural festivals. One of Berlin’s largest Universities of Applied Sciences. Highly regarded in Germany and with rigorous teaching and assessment. UWE will only consider applications from students who have performed well in their first year. Berlin Berlin is major metropolis that offers a wealth of opportunities for learning and leisure. Well known for its festivals, diverse architecture, nightlife, contemporary arts, and high standard of living. A perfect location to be able to travel other European destinations. 19 Lillebaelt Academy of Professional Higher Education
Southern Denmark’s largest business academy. It has a reputation for strong cooperation with industry and research institutions. Arrangements for incoming exchange students include an introductory week, team building, events, and parties. Odense Odense is the third largest city in Denmark and one of the oldest cities in Denmark. It has the largest number of students per capita of all cities in Denmark. Accommodation Most students are housed in EAL’s International student hostel very near the college and the city centre. 20 Ecole Superieure des Sciences Commerciales d'Angers (ESSCA)
A prestigious Business school in France with rigorous teaching and assessment. Offers a buddy system, social events and trips to exchange students. Angers/Paris Opportunities to study in either Angers (Loire valley) or Paris. Accommodation Accommodation can be provided by ESSCA for Angers students. Paris students should start looking early. One of the largest and most modern institutions of HE in the Netherlands. Internationalisation at the core of its strategy. Active ESN and good support for exchange students Haarlem The capital of North Holland – home to cultural events. A short distance from beaches and in easy reach of many European cities. Accommodation Limited short-stay housing is provided by InHolland for a maximum of 2 semesters. Based in Paris, this institution offers high quality academic education with a particular focus on entrepreneurship and commerce. Paris Studying in Paris offers an unparalleled cultural experience. Paris is a vast, exciting city with Cafés, clubs, cultural associations, cinemas, concerts and artistic events to cater to all tastes. Accommodation Privately arranged – although Novancia have tips online. Can be expensive and students should start their search well in advance of their exchange. Stockholm Business School welcomes 140 exchange students every semester. The highly regarded Business School is located in attractive historic buildings dating from 1912 close to the Brunnsviken lake. Stockholm Stockholm has a population 1.3 million, of which 80,000 are students. It combines elegant historical buildings and lush natural parks with a modern, cosmopolitan spirit. UAB is located on the outskirts of Barcelona in an area of outstanding natural beauty. This campus institution has a thriving community of Erasmus students. UWE students spend a year on the Business Administration and Management course. Barcelona One of the worlds most major cities, with a rich cultural heritage and impressive architecture. Large student population and a good selection of bars, cafes and quirky independent stores. Accommodation Private and University accommodation available Application Online application.
