Emotional Appeal When writers appeal to emotions such as fear, anger, sadness, etc. to sway readers.

Rhetorical Question When writers ask a question to which there is no particular answer to; the writer means the answer to be obvious.

Repetition When writers repeat a word, phrase or sentence to emphasize their point.

Analogy When a writer uses figures of speech or comparisons such as similes and metaphors to prove their point.

Hyperbole When a writer overstates or exaggerates a point for a certain effect. For example, your mom says, “I have told you a million times to not do that!”

Testimonial When a writer uses words of an expert or a famous person.

Bandwagon When a writer lets readers know that everyone else is doing it to sway them.

Transfer When a writer uses names or pictures of famous people but not direct quotes.
