The resurrection of Lazarus
Throughout Lent, we have been looking at Jesus’ life and teachings…focusing on how prayer emerges as such a large theme in both. On this Easter Sunday, we will take a look at how prayer factors into Jesus’ most famous miracle: The resurrection of Lazarus
3
He raised someone from the dead.
During his ministry, Jesus demonstrated His power through many signs and miracles; including three recorded incidents where He raised someone from the dead.
4
Mark 5: 21-43 Luke 8: 40-56 Jesus raises the young daughter of Jairus, a synagogue leader Luke 7: 11-17 Jesus raises a widow’s only son at Nain
5
Jesus’ third miraculous incident
of raising someone from the dead should be viewed as far more difficult in medical terms, with Lazarus having been entombed for four days.
6
will live, even though he dies;
John 11: 25-26 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
7
John 11:27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that
You are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.”
8
John 11: 39-40 39 “Take away the stone,” he said.
“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” 40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?”

41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said,
John 11: 41-42 41 So they took away the stone Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that You have heard me. 42 I know that You always hear me, but I say this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that You sent me.”
10
John 11: 43-44 43 When He had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice,
“Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.
11
Far too many have clearly heard
the “resurrection call” of Jesus and have chosen to remain inside the dark prison of sin, shame, and habits that He longs to free them from.
12
When Lazarus steps out of the tomb, Jesus orders others
to take off his funeral wrappings so that he can live and move about in full freedom. Other Christians help us after our salvation in similar ways.
13
30 “Jesus performed many other signs
John 20: 30-31 30 “Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His Name.”
14
“Praise be to the God and Father of our
1 Peter 1:3 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”
15
Every miracle that Jesus ever performed and every teaching that
He gave were all for the purpose of ushering in what He called “The Kingdom of God.” It is the belief that God’s Way of doing life is invading our world and making all things new!
16
Do you believe & have life in Jesus’ Name?
What about you? Are you Martha, plagued by many doubts? Are you Lazarus, ignoring the call of Christ? Are you wrapped up in sin or addictions? Is God asking you to help “free” others? Do you believe & have life in Jesus’ Name?
