2 W H A T I S R O T C ? Army Reserve Officer Training Corps is a leadership and training program. It focuses on problem solving, planning, and professional ethics. Over 70% of all Army Officers commission through ROTC. Freshmen and sophomores take Basic Course classes and Basic Camp or Basic Training. Advanced Course Cadets are juniors, seniors or graduate students pursuing a commission. They are paid to attend Advanced Camp the summer after their junior year. 5 ROTC MEANS SUCCESS Army ROTC prepares you for success. Many Fortune 500 executives have prior military leadership experience. It pays to become an Army Officer, even after service. Army ROTC offers scholarships to defray the cost of education so you can focus on getting your degree, not paying for it. Prior service or enlisted? National Scholarship— Application Window: June 1st junior year to January 10th of senior year Items Needed: Interview with Professor of Military Science, Presidential Fitness Test, Transcripts, ACT/SAT There are three Scholarship Boards starting in October Scholarships may be for 3 or 4 years, up to 5 years for engineering majors Apply online at Requirements: 1. U.S. citizen Between age of 17 and 26 Minimum 2.5 cumulative high school GPA 4. High school diploma or equivalent 5. Minimum score of 1000 on the SAT (math/verbal) or 19 on the ACT 6. Meet Army physical standards 7. Agree to accept a commission as an Officer and serve in the Army on Active Duty, in the Army National Guard or Army Reserve Your Commitment: 1. An eight year military service obligation upon graduation and commissioning 2. 10 C O L L E G E A P P L I C AT I O N 2 to 4 Year Campus-Based Scholarship Apply in person to 306 Harris Hall Scholarship availability varies year to year—apply early for best chance Must be fully qualified (including GPA, DoDMERB, APFT and loyalty oath) Applicants must not be contracted or enlisted already Requirements: Be a U.S. citizen between 17 and 30 years old Enrolled in college full time pursuing either a bachelor’s or advanced degree Have two years remaining for degree Have a cumulative college GPA of at least 2.5 Meet military medical qualification standards Agree to accept a commission as an Officer and serve in the Army on Active Duty, in the Army National Guard or Army Reserve Your Commitment: 1. An eight year military service obligation upon graduation and commissioning 2. 13 R O T C M Y T H S 1. You are joining the Army by joining Army ROTC
1.Our Cadets don’t join the Army until they decide to contract 2. I’m committing the next 8 years if I accept an ROTC scholarship 2. Four year scholarship winners can void their contract prior to the start of their second year 3. You have to go to Basic Training 3. Cadets can earn Basic Course credit by completing freshman and sophomore ROTC courses, attending Leader’s Training Course, or Basic Training 4. You have to be in great shape to join ROTC 4. Our Physical Training Program is led by our Cadets and designed for all abilities 5. ROTC takes up too much time 5. ROTC requires freshmen to take a 1 hour class—contracted Cadets take a 2 hour lab, and 1 hour of Physical Training on MWF 6. ROTC will lower my grades 6. We teach professional development, including time management and study skills, and peer-to-peer mentoring 7. I’ll get pulled out of school and deployed 7.
