1
What is a decision? A decision is defined as a determination arrived at after consideration.
2
The Decision Making Model
We will use a Six Step model to arrive at a rational decision. Each step must be completed before moving on to the next step.
3
The Steps 1. Define the situation and the desired outcome.
Ex: “I want to go to college to become a teacher.”
4
The Steps 2. Research and identify options.
-What grade level? Subject? What school? Commute or live on campus? Financial aid? Program reviews.
5
The Steps 3. Compare and contrast each alternative and its consequences Ex: School vs. School, proximity, length of program.
6
The Steps 4. Make a decision, but have an alternative.
Ex: I would like to go to school here, but will apply to two other schools of choice as well.
7
The Steps 5. Design and implement an action plan
Apply. Choose. Go forward.
8
The Steps 6. Evaluate results
Confident? Satisfied? Did you “get what you wanted” out of your decision?
9
Your Turn.. “ You and your friend went to a birthday party. While at the party, your friend consumed several beers. Your friend is your ride home, and your curfew is quickly approaching.” Using the six step process, come to a rational decision on the situation listed above. Please write this in your notebook.
