DO NOW: Re-read the Epigram from Chapter 2 Write Down: An epigraph is an inscription on a building, statue, or coin.a short quotation or saying at the beginning of a book or chapter, intended to suggest its theme.

3 WEEK AHEAD Monday: Tonight read the rest of chapter 4 and read London’s “To Build a Fire.” Write an entry in your journal for chapter 4 and note we will write 2 for “To Build a Fire” Tuesday: Read Stephen King’s piece Write one more entry for “To Build a Fire” Wednesday: Read the Survival Guide tips and write a second entry for Stephen King piece Fore break, you will have to write an essay via Turnitin.com

What is the tone? Ask yourself, what is this passage about? What does the speaker/writer feel about the subject? Focus on the diction. What words signal the tone? Thinking back to chapter two, how did the epigraph connect to the content of chapter 2?
