2. Timetable
14th October – deadline for project allocation preferences from students and supervisors
18th October – notification to students of project
allocation.
2nd December – receive project progress reports from students (1-2 pages)
end of December – send feedback on project reports to students (copied to supervisors).

3. Timetable (contd)
early January – meet with problematic students, meet with their supervisors seperately.
15/16/17 March – practice oral talks, verbal feedback to students and supervisors (see attached timetable)
2nd May – submission of projects reports (<8000 words)
3/4/5 May – formal oral presentations.

4. Some Comments from Supervisors Feedback Meeting (9th July 2015)
Don’t have high expectations – design projects that are simple with the possibility of stretching capable students. Students from Maths may need adjustment to astronomy.
8 hours contact time – make sure that students know this. Don’t over-supervise.
Make an early start on projects, so that there are some concrete results by Christmas.
First time supervisors should ask more experienced supervisors for advice on student supervision.
If there are problems, alert me at the earliest opportunity.
Important to attend practice sessions in March. For problematic students this is when I can give useful feedback on descope options.
