All courses will run subject to viable numbers. Where the numbers of applicants for a course are low, the school may work in partnership with another school/other schools in the district to maintain the offer.

10. Changes to A Level courses in recent years
Over the last 3 years we have seen A levels converted to two-year courses
Applied A-levels have been phased out
Health & Social Care is now offered as a Level 3 BTEC course. This still contains a required examination component but ensures that this highly successful course can continue to be a highly practical vocational course.
BTEC Sport Level 3 (double option) will continue to be offered and will contain a required examination component.
ICT Cambridge Technicals have been updated in line with new government requirements

11. A two year programme
Longer-term focus for A-level requires different skills and emphasis

Option to discuss 4 courses for students with a grade 7 average at GCSE level

12. Entry criteria
The requirement to study 3 A Level/Level 3 courses will be an ‘Attainment 8’ average points score of at least 5.0.
To calculate the points score:
Assign each GCSE/Level 2 equivalent qualification a score from 1 (G) to 8 (A*), or for Eng & Ma (1(1) to 9 (9))
Double the scores for English Language and Mathematics,
Add the scores for the best 6 other grades and
Divide the total by ten. 9 8 A*

18. Core Mathematical Studies
This is a Level 3 core maths qualification designed for students who have achieved a grade 5 or above in GCSE maths.
This is an additional course that can be studied alongside your 3 A levels.
Build on students mathematical understanding and develop their application of mathematics to authentic problems.
Builds mathematical understanding and skills to support the mathematical content in other Level 3 qualifications, for example Biology, Geography, Physics , Psychology and Economics.
The course has the equivalent UCAS points of an AS Level and will be studied over two years.
