Warm-Up: Do NOW! On your index card.
What have you heard about immigration? What’s going on with immigration these days? You tell me!
2
Flip your card over… Who immigrates to America? Why do people from all over the world want to come to America?
3
Immigration Opinionnaire
Consider the 8 statements on the Immigration Opinionnaire. For each statement, state AGREE or DISAGREE (you must choose one). Write a statement providing your reasons/argument for your opinion.

Immigration Opinionnaire Discussion
You have 16 minutes to do this WITH YOUR GROUP. Pick a group leader to manage this discussion. Choose 4 of the 8 statements you would like to discuss – as a group. Discuss each statement. Make sure EVERY group member states their opinions and their reasons (that is the leader’s job). Listen attentively. Don’t interrupt. Ask questions at the end of their explanation. In the chart on your paper, make notes of different opinions, perspectives, interesting comments your group members make, etc.

Changing Perspectives… Reflection Question
What one statement do you have a new opinion or perspective on after your group’s discussion? It’s ok if no opinions totally changed, but make sure you still explain something new that was said, that made you think in a different way, or consider an issue from a new side.

IMMIGRATION There are many commonly held beliefs about immigration. Some of them you probably have some opinion on already, and some of them you might be surprised to learn factual information. For several days, we will be examining a variety of sources on immigration. Fill out the graphic organizer as you go. Be a myth buster!
