1 Sophomore year! It’s your time to shine!

2 GPA Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is very important this year! When you apply for college the beginning of your Senior year, your transcript will reflect the cumulative GPA from your Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years. If you want to take any AP, dual-credit, internship, or independent study classes in the next two years, you need to have a 3.0 GPA (B average).

3 Participate! Try out something new this year – a new club, sport, volunteer commitment, theatre play, or other activity. Now is the time to get out of your regular routine and try something new – it will help you be a well-rounded person, meet new people, and make memories that will last a lifetime!

4 Time for a job! If your grades are in balance where you want them, it might be time to explore getting a job. Workplace experience teaches time-management, responsibility, the ability to communicate with co-workers, and so many other useful employability skills that will help you long into the future Having a little extra money is nice too!

5 Start researching colleges
Next year as a Junior you will get two college visit days Make the most of these college visit days by researching what major you might be interested in, and what colleges offer that major. Think about what setting you would like in a college – rural, urban, public, private, etc. Learn more about the costs associated with college, and ways to pay for your education
