2 Plan After High School Please make sure you have a plan before you leave VHHS.

3 Starting Point Decide what type of career or job you wish to excute for the next 35 to 40 years. Research what specfic training or major in college is required. Investigate what college, university, vocational school etc. will prepare you for that particular job or career. Find the best school with your major or training.

4 Vocational Schools A vocational school is a program designed to get you trained and out in the workplace in a matter of months not years. LATTC (Los Angeles Trade Tech) has a variety of programs to get you ready for the workforce. Auto Repair, Construction, Photography, Culinary, Welding, Cosmetology, Fashion Design, Collision Repair, Electronics, Nursing, Office Administration, etc. Free to apply

5 Community Colleges Requirements: 18 years of age or high school diploma. Concurrent enrollment Community Colleges offer Transfer Programs and Certificated programs. TAG (Transfer Admission Gurantee). Deadline-The sooner you apply the better to get the classes you need in a timely manner. Application is online and it is free.

6 California State Universities
23 Campuses The Mission of the Cal State Universities Is to educate the Masses. The Mission of the CSU is to educate the masses.

7 CSU Requirements A-G Requirements must be completed by the end of senior year with a C or better NO Ds or Fails Average GPA The lower the GPA, the higher the SAT/ACT. Cost: Fees average $6,500 per year Total cost of attending ranges from $17,000 to $28,000 depending on the school (fees, housing, meal plans, books, etc)

8 CSU Application Process
Application is online at CALSTATE.EDU/APPLY. SAT or ACT score no writing required due by December of 2018. Application for Fall 2019 opens October 1, 2018 Application is due on November 30, 2018 Cost of applying is $55 per application. Apply to at least two as a plan A, B or C

9 University of California
Mission of UC is to educate California’s finest. The UC system is interested in the top 15% of students in senior class. Class ranking is very Important.

10 UC Requirements A-G courses must be completed by end of senior year with a C or better. Cost of each application is $70 dollars. Application for Fall 2019 opens on August 1st, Due date is November 30. Cost: Fees and tuition $ 13,900. Total cost of attending is about $34,700.

11 UC Application Process
Application online at ACT with writing or SAT with writing by Dec. 4 out of 8 insightful questions If you are interested in engineering, you must have four years of math and four years of science. You must also take the SAT Subject level 2 math test and one SAT Subject science test.

12 Private Schools Benefits of applying to private colleges...
1. Graduate in four years. 2. Money is awarded based on need and merit. Private schools open many doors. 4. Provide many opportunities for internship, study-abroad programs and net working opportunities.

Are two sites where you can apply to many of the private schools across the nation. If a private school is not on one of these sites, you go to the website of the particular school you are interested in and apply. Cost of Application Fee: varies from school to school ($30.00 to $ per school).

15 Private Colleges/Universities
Requirements Application online SAT with writing or ACT with writing Two letters of rec. from teachers or a supervisor, if you work An essay or two or more depending on the school and other supplemental writing. Short answers to open ended questions. Counselor letter (your academic counselor will write this letter)

16 Fee Waivers for Private Colleges and Universities

21 Meal Application Benefits of applying to Meal Program
Two (2) free SAT and ACT fee waivers (come to my office to pick them up) Four (4) fee waivers for CSUs (built into application) Four (4) fee waivers for UCs (built into application) AP Exams are $5.00 each instead of $ with no limit. Fee waivers for all private colleges and universities on CommonApp and Coalition with no limit.

22 FAFSA The Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) opens up on October 1, Do not complete it before October 1, 2018 Go to and complete the application. You will need your parents and their 2017 income taxes. FAFSA must be completed before March 2, (the sooner, the better)
