Reactions. William and Harald refused to accept the Witan’s decision and began to make plans to attack England and take the throne.

Chronology September 25th 1066 – King Harold has marched his army from down South to York in the North and takes Harald’s army by surprise! Harald is defeated. October 1st 1066 – After King Harold hears that Duke William has landed in England, he marches all of his army to meet him in London. 10 July 1066 – King Harold prepares his army. At the same time, Duke William prepares his at the same time. September 20th 1066 – Harald Hardrada invades and wins a good victory against some of the English army.
