MEASUREMENT Part4
2
DENSITY Density is the amount of mass per unit of volume.
3
Finding the Density 1) Find the mass of the object.
2) Find the volume of the object. 3) Use the formula to find the density: D = M/V M D V
4
How to Label Density The units for density should always be a mass unit over a volume unit. Examples: g/mL, kg/L, g/cm3, kg/m3
5
Example Problem What is the density of this block? D = M/V
M = 200g V = 5cm x 5cm x 3cm = 75cm3 D = M/V D = 200g/75cm3 D = 2.67 g/cm3
6
Practice Problems What is the density of a material with a volume of 3m3 and a mass of 500g? Answer: g/m3 What is the density of a liquid with a volume of 55mL and a mass of 100g? Answer: g/mL
7
Which liquid has the greater density?
Liquid #1: m = 20g v = 9.4mL Liquid #2; m = 10g v = 16mL Answer: #1 = 2.13 g/mL #2 = 0.63 g/mL Answer #1 has the greater density.
