3 Why is Guided Reading important?
Guided reading allows your child to work with a text that is appropriate for them. It allows them to apply and practice new reading strategies with support from the teacher since there are 6 or less students in each group.

4 How does my child participate?
Your child meets with his/her teacher in a small group for reading instruction. Your child’s teacher previews the text with the small group. Your child will begin reading their text along with the other students in their small group. The teacher will listen to your child read and help them decode and understand the text. After reading, the small group will discuss the text and the teacher will check for understanding and teach a mini-lesson on the reading strategies used or not used by the students. 1/11/2019 copyright
