motion - occurs when something changes position or moves from Point A to Point B
to determine if motion has occurred a point of reference (something not in motion) is needed for comparison
(Figure 2 p. 167)

4. Distance and Displacement Movement from Point A to Point B involves both…
the length of the path traveled b/w 2 points
[ex. the route you walk to get from the front of the school to this classroom]

b/w 2 points AND direction
- to determine displacement you must connect Point A & Point B w/ a straight line
