Lesson Aim: To be able to explain Hitler’s four foreign policy aims. TASK: Share your interesting piece of information about Hitler. Take some photos on PhotoGleamer of the pupils information to show the whole class.

5 Hitler’s foreign policy aims
To destroy the Treaty of Versailles, by re-arming Germany and recovering lands lost in the Treaty. Aim ~2: To bring all German-speaking people everywhere under German control. In particular, this means reuniting with Austria. Aim ~3: To expand East in order to gain Lebensraum (‘living space’) for the German people. This means Poland and the USSR (Russia). Aim ~4: To destroy the communist USSR (Russia). Make a note of these aims. Note down this table and the timeline on p47. Extra Challenge: Why do you think Hitler wanted these things? Why do you think he felt the German people would want this also?

6 Why did Britain and France follow at policy of appeasement toward Hitler?
Use p54 to make a table top poster of why appeasement was/was not a good idea. Make two spider diagrams: Reasons for appeasement/reasons against appeasement.
