WELCOME TO Annual Meeting of Title I Families E. H. Gilbert Elementary Herlinda Martinez-Longoria - Principal Jose Vasquez - Academic Dean

2 WHY ARE WE HERE? Federal Law Requires that each Title I School hold an Annual Meeting of Title I Families for the purpose of: Informing you of your school’s participation in Title I Explaining the requirements of Title I Explaining your rights as parents to be involved

3 WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A TITLE I SCHOOL?
Being a Title I school means that this school receives federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs. These are additional dollars to enhance learning opportunities for students.

4 WHAT ARE THESE DOLLARS USED FOR?
Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help these students meet the State’s challenging content standards. Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials/supplies Conducting Family Engagement activities Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Effective Teachers

5 Parent’s Right-To-Know

6 Teacher Qualifications:
You have the right to know… Whether the teacher, who teachers your child, has met state qualification and licensing criteria for the grade level and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction. The degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.

7 Paraprofessionals You have the right to request information concerning whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications.

8 State Assessments You have the right to know about the achievement of your child in each of the state’s academic assessments – STAAR and End of Course.

9 Family and Community Engagement

10 Each Title I campus must have a:
Family Engagement Policy. School-Parent Compact which outlines School responsibilities Parent/family responsibilities Student responsibilities

11 You, as a Title I Parent, have the right to be involved in your child’s education.

12 What can you do to help? Attendance is KEY! Make sure your child attends school and other supplemental services, such as tutorials if needed. Participate in parent/family engagement activities that assist you in learning how to increase your child’s achievement level. Attend parent-teacher conferences and communicate regularly with your child’s teacher Make sure that your child completes all assignments. Ask questions. The campus staff is here to help your child be successful!
