Field personnel’s experiences
Data from qualitative interviews among the field personnel How to motive the participants? What is the reason for non-participation? Results Participant’s mistrust towards the authorities led to non- participation (fear of ethnic profiling.) Shared cultural background both hinders and promotes participation (fears of data secrecy.)

Best practices in Data collection
Sufficient resources for building trust (in co-operation between different actors) (Hearings, focus group interviews, ensuring cultural appropriateness of the study content, translating questionaires, employing community mediators). Employer’s support for the field personnel: guiding and training, respecting intercultural knowledge and skills, support and trust, regular meetings and communication.

Conclusions Most important motive for participation is understanding the aim of the study > development of better services. Communication is the key to success Mutual co-operation creates trust among minority communities and authorities. It increases the ethical value of research when the study results can be utilized to benefit the community.
