4 Vision South Africa to be an international hub for space solutions for the world of the future
4

5 Strategic Goals Goal 1: Address South Africa’s challenges through space applications Goal 2: Lead high-impact collaborative R&D on a national scale Goal 3: Develop national human capacity and ensure transformation Goal 4: Enhance the competitiveness of the South African space industry Goal 5: Develop active global partnerships 5

6 Strategic Programmes and Performance Outputs
6

7 Strategic Alignment 7

8 Goal 1: Space applications
4 (5) high-impact space applications 50000 images distributed Five thematic categories for national base datasets Space Weather Services Magnetic Technology Services Number of government decision or policy support tools (dropped due to budgetary constraints) 8

9 Goal 2: Lead high-impact R&D
Research productivity score of 1300 (1200) Earth Observation Space Science Score based on publications, funding secured, students graduated and research rating 9

10 Goal 3: Develop Human Capital
10800 (12000) young people directly engaged through science awareness and outreach 50 (70) students and interns supported for formalized training: 80% PDI students Science, engineering and technical fields 10

11 Goal 4: Enhance our industry (1/2)
Successful satellite pass monitoring rate of 98% (98%) R58m (R44m) commercial income generated from space operations 55 (55) direct jobs supported R50m (R67m) contract expenditure to local industry for space projects R11.9m (R14.2m) earmarked for SMEs 11

12 Goal 4: Enhance our industry (2/2)
Critical design review (PDR) of EO-Sat 1 Launch and commission of ZACube2 Launch of satellite planned for June 2018 Mission includes: Automated Identification System for ship detection K-Line fire detection 12

13 Goal 5: Develop active partnerships
5 active formal oversees partnerships (BRICS, DLR, JRC, ESA, CNES) 5 active formal African partnerships (ARMC, NEPAD, Nigeria, Gabon, Egypt) 5 active formal national partnerships (TIA, CSIR, Armscor, ATNS, SAWS) 13

14 Goals 6 and 7 These goals have been removed due to:
Limited funding has meant more than R50 million cut in our operations budget These goals represent operational activities and we should focus and report on strategic imperatives The operational efficiencies and effectiveness of the organisation will still continue in the background 14
