1 Researcher (Grad Student, Post-doc)
MEGAN’S PERSONA Name: Corin Taylor, Ph.D User Type: Researcher (Grad Student, Post-doc) Quote: UCSF isn't the kind of place where you freely admit that you don't know something (a technique, a data analysis method). I'd like to learn how to do X in a safe, non-judgmental place. This user needs support and community both to relieve stress and be successful, but they can’t risk being seen as as needy or incapable by their peers. Goals & Needs Obstacles & Pain Points Opportunities I need access to (and training on) software to analyze data (big data ... genomic data) I have exhausted the information network in my lab ... and UCSF isn't the kind of place where you admit what you don't know. I'm looking for hands-on, intro-level help ... a class? office hours? I don't have much $$$ to spend Expand software licensing or work stations with needed software & the classes to support them Offer training in R/Python I need space outside of the lab for working in a group and/or spreading out materials as I write up a manuscript UCSF isn't a very nurturing place (very lab- dependent) so I'd like to create my own community so we can learn X together Encourage research community building by hosting Meet-ups/Happy Hours on data analysis Give Corin information on how to host your own meet-up Borrowing account? Yes Most-used library Online PC Chrome Most-used tech I need full-text access to more journals It’s frustrating that a university of UCSF’s caliber does not have access to [this resource I need] Expand online journal collection Make interlibrary loan lightning-speed fast Mission Bay Campus Interest in in-person events & help None Very Into It
