2 Culture Culture is the way of life of a group of people who share similar beliefs and customs. Civilizations are highly developed cultures. People belong to an ethnic group, which shares a language, history, religion, and some physical characteristics. A dialect is a local form of a language that may have a distinct vocabulary and pronunciation.

3 What are some words that are in our southern dialect that others might not know?

4 Types of Government In a democracy, the government is run by the people. Citizens have a vote to elect officers into and out of office. In a republic, people vote a president into office. In a dictatorship, the leader, or dictator, rules by force. A monarchy is a government led by a king or queen who inherits power by being born into the ruling family.

5 Write democracy, dictator, or monarch beside each statement.
__________ Ruler doesn’t allow elections of public officers, who might take his power away. __________ A prince will move into his position of authority when his father passes away. __________ Anonymous elections are held regularly to elect public officers.

6 Economies Cultural diffusion is the process of spreading ideas, languages, or customs from one culture to another. Globalization is the development of a worldwide culture with individual economies that rely on each other for resources.

7 Give examples of cultural diffusion in the USA.

8 Examples of Cultural Diffusion
Spread of small pox to Native Americans Europeans adopted gun powder, the compass, and printing after the Chinese invented them. Religions spread around the world.
