Brief Description Adopt-a- teacher A chance to work closely with a member of staff on a weekly basis supporting the learning of lower school students in a subject that you enjoy and have an aptitude for. You will be able to work with groups or individuals and gain valuable experience of the teaching environment. Learning Support is also an excellent chance to work on numeracy and literacy skills with students who attend the learning support clubs. You are able to decide when you will attend and maintain this continuity to help students on a regular basis. PLEASE COMPLETE A YELLOW FORM AND GET THIS SIGNED BY THE STAFF MEMBER AND RETURN TO MISS WRIGHT. Adopt a Form Teacher You will work with a year 7 to 11 form tutor for 2 morning registrations a week (9:00-9:30am), assisting them with the daily tasks of being a form tutor. This may be arranging a form activity, signing diaries, taking registers, reading the bulletin, assisting with enrichment etc. This can only occur on Monday and Thursday registrations for year 12 students. PLEASE COMPLETE A YELLOW FORM AND GET THIS SIGNED BY THE STAFF MEMBER Work Experience You will organise your own work experience placement that must be approved by AR, EW or SW, completing the necessary paperwork requirements before beginning the placement. PLEASE COMPLETE A GREEN FORM AND RETURN TO MISS WRIGHT

2 Option Name Brief Description PE Technician Role Mr Roberts
Regular and committed attendance (once a week) to assist the PE staff in the maintenance of the PE facilities and gain an understanding of the work that happens behind the scenes. Students would be expected to contribute enthusiastically and independently towards the many duties that they would be given responsibility for.  Many of the jobs will require thought, care and attention to detail, and students would be expected to use their initiative to problem solve. Jobs would include anything from; pumping up balls to using the washing machine, helping organise teams in lessons to partnering younger pupils in games and drills, and preparing kits and equipment for fixtures.5 STUDENTS ONLY SELECTED BY APPLICATION – if you are interested in this option please select this on your sheet as choice 1 and we will be in contact with you but still select a 2nd and 3rd choice in case you are not successful. Literacy Ambassadors Mr Wheatley This is an opportunity to help others gain skills. Following some training you will be working with students in year 7 and 8 to develop and improve their literacy and reading skills in order to help them progress.

3 IET Formula 24+ Challenge
Option Name Brief Description IET Formula Challenge Mr Cope The Greenpower IET Formula 24+ challenge gives students the opportunity to design, build and race an electric, single seater car on some of the UK’s top motor circuits. Team members will need to be pro-active in raising funds by contacting local companies to arrange sponsorship as well as the design and build of the car. This would be run after school on a day to be decided but would also involve other days to attend the race meetings. Silver Crest Award Mrs Wynne CREST awards are managed by the British Science Association. The Silver Award is designed to stretch students and enrich their STEM studies. You develop your own project idea and gain in-depth experience of the scientific method or engineering design process. You can work independently or in groups to plan and run a project addressing a real-world STEM problem. You will submit the project, as well as each team member’s profile form, to the online platform. Silver Awards are assessed online by a trained CREST assessor. They are all experts from industry, academia or the education sector. Previous projects have ranged from the Physics of skimming stones to how animals survive deep underwater and how green are electric cars. The total time to complete the work is about 30 hours.

Duke Of Edinburgh Scheme – Bronze / Silver / Gold Mrs Dodgson A course designed to promote initiative, team work and independent fulfilment; it can also count towards the AQA Baccalaureate. During this one year programme students will be introduced to the four sections of the Silver Award; Volunteering, Skills, Physical and Expedition. Guidance on how to complete the first three of these elements independently will be given but it is expected that students will complete these in their own time (approx. 3 hrs per week). Full expedition training will be given. There will be a charge dependant on the level of qualification. Rock School Mr Dolman Form part of the whole school ‘rock’ band, with the opportunity to play in school concerts and improve your musical ability. There may be the opportunity to coach younger students with their instruments. Student Investor Challenge Mr Adams A chance to enter a national competition backed by the FTSE and Bloomberg where you can invest £ virtual pounds. You will need to buy and sell shares in order to make the biggest profit and compete against teams of students from all over the country. There is the chance to win £100 for being investor of the month as well as overall prizes of trips to New York and London!

Option Name Brief Description Yr 11 Year book / Video Creation Mrs Suett This role will involve working with Mrs Suett and the Year 11 tutors to take and edit using photoshop. You will also be assisting in the filming and editing of the end of year video. A good knowledge of photoshop and film/media editing skills is essential. 5 STUDENTS ONLY SELECTED BY APPLICATION – if you are interested in this option please add this on your sheet and we will be in contact with you but still select a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice in case you are not successful. Beginners Spanish Mr Woodgate The aim of the sessions is to give an idea not only of the Spanish language but also of the people who speak it, to all students wishing to gain a flavour for the language. These sessions are meant for students who know little or no Spanish and who don’t have a great deal of time available to learn it. By the end of the year you should be able to handle shopping, ordering meals, asking for directions and other everyday situations. You’ll also be able to have simple conversations about work, the weather and yourself.

Option Name Brief Description Sport – Mixed Rugby Mrs Close An opportunity to learn and be coached in the skills of rugby, playing games and representing the school in local leagues and maintaining/improving your fitness. You may also be used to help coach the lower year groups. Sport – Multigym Miss Wright An opportunity to use the multigym under the guidance of PE staff to develop and improve your fitness. Suitable PE kit is essential. Highlights Magazine Editorial Team Mrs Hunwicks The school highlights magazine is published once a term and is now written by a number of students across key stage 3 and 4. Your role would be ‘supervising editors’ to help the lower school pupils get better at their writing, organise the content of the magazine etc. It would take place during one lunchtime a week.

7 Student Life Advertising Magazine
Option Name Brief Description Student Life Advertising Magazine Mr Stewart Student Life is a new magazine for sixth formers and university students.  It is being produced by Kesgrave Sixth Form and University College Suffolk.  It will be delivered to the whole of Waterfront area in Ipswich and to Kesgrave and Martlesham.  It needs approximately £60,000 a year to produce this magazine as it extremely high quality.  This means that independent funding is essential.  This will come from advertising space.  Students with an interest in Business and Sales would do research into which local businesses would be interested in buying advertising space.  They will be trained on how to do a sales pitch and they will go with the editor of the magazine to companies and sell the advertising space.  This would be an amazing thing to have on your C.V. Music Ambassadors Mr Woodley The music department are looking for committed instrumental musicians to join our ambassador programme. You will work with music staff on a variety of projects which may include working in a primary school to deliver outreach music projects or instrumental coaching, and running an ensemble here at KHS. Students would be expected to contribute enthusiastically and the work in primary schools will require organisation, patience, and  to be able to use your initiative and musical common sense! Students will need to have a study period during block 2 (Monday P2, Wednesday P1, Friday P1) or block 5 (Tuesday P2, Thursday P1, Friday P3).

8 GCSE Maths and English Tuition Lower School Reading Helpers
Option Name Brief Description GCSE Maths and English Tuition In this elective you will be assigned a Year 10 or 11 student that is struggling with either Maths or English (depending on which you choose). You will be required to meet with the student once a week either at lunchtime or after school. You will be required to help students with particular areas that they are struggling with or with the completion of homework/revision. This may require you to liaise with members of teaching staff to discuss topics etc. Lower School Reading Helpers In this elective you will be assigned a student (probably year 7 or 8) who you will meet once a week in registration time. Your role will be to listen to the student read, although you may need to also read alternately with them to help build confidence. This is a really important elective as you will be helping to promote literacy and a love of reading. You will discuss books with the student and could even help them pick appropriate reading material. It will require you to liaise with the students English teacher to discuss suitable books and reading targets.   Really Cross Stitch Mr Tingey This is an opportunity to design and complete a cross stitch pattern to ease your anger and centre your mind! For absolute beginners as Mr TIngey teach you how to do it all!
