3 Volunteering Helping people, the community or society, the environment or animals Your volunteering must not be done for a business but can be undertaken for a charity or not-for-profit organisation 1 hour a week in your OWN time

4 Skill Allows you to prove you have broadened your understanding and increased your expertise in your chosen skill.  It cannot be a physical activity! 1 hour a week in your OWN time.

5 Physical Choose any sport, dance or fitness activity - in short, anything that requires a sustained level of energy and physical activity. 1 hour a week in your OWN time.

7 Expedition A training day
A two-day, one night practice expedition at Wymondley woods A two-day, one night Qualifying expedition in Hertfordshire All of these occasions will involve full kit and the expeditions will need to be planned properly by students.

8 Time Scales Volunteering Physical Skills Expedition 3 months
Plan, train for and complete a 2 day, 1 night expedition All participants must undertake a further 3 months in the Volunteering, Physical or Skills section.

9 Useful information Assessors cannot be a member of your family
Assessors must have a skill (eg ‘neighbour’ or ‘family friend’ doesn’t count but an ‘experienced cook’ assessing a cooking skill does count). Both pages of your log book need to be completed and scanned in before a section can be approved Read your ‘messages’ regularly on Regularly check the DofE notice board Adding additional evidence (e.g. photographs of you participating in your sections) is encouraged but not compulsory.

10 Your assessor report MUST include the following comments
Confirmation of time commitment in dates format or number of months (e.g. Joe regularly attended swimming lessons for at least an hour each week from 01/01/15-01/04/15, or , Joe has been attending hour long swimming lessons every week for the past 3 months.  An evaluation of the aims and objectives set by the participant. Confirmation of whether or not the aims were met. The Assessor’s name, contact details and position/qualification

‘SUBMIT FOR APPROVAL’ Remember to click this button after finalising your details! All 3 sections must be completed, uploaded and approved by 1st April. Students will not be allowed to go on the expedition unless you have completed the other sections.

17 Training You will be trained in the following areas:
First aid and emergency procedures Awareness of risk and health/safety issues Navigation and route planning Camp craft, equipment and hygiene Food and cooking Country code Observation, recording and presentation Teamwork

18 Expectations for students
Ensure all deadlines are met, if we regularly have to chase students to meet deadlines it is likely that they will be removed from the Award. Complete all sections in with a positive manner to ensure you are representing the Award and the school in a fitting manner. Attend all meetings and training.

19 What can Parents/Guardians do to help?
The DofE is not easy and the hard work, dedication and effort needs to come from the participants. But, there are things you can do to help…….

20 What can Parents/Guardians do to help?
Help ensure the activities chosen are possible and can realistically be achieved Prompt students to check noticeboard regularly for updates Encourage participants to regularly attend/work on their chosen activities. A minimum of 1 hour a week on each activity is required Ensure participants are updating their eDofE account. Check your Show My Homework for any announcements/information

22 Kit Students will need to have the correct kit for their expedition (this is a DofE requirement) Rucksacks, trangias (stoves) and tents can be hired from the school if not done so already Kit collection and drop off sessions

23 Key Dates Monday 3 December DofE student groups to be confirmed on DofE noticeboard. Jan/Feb/March 2019 (Various Dates) - After school training at Nobel  Monday 1 April 2019– Physical, Skill and Volunteering sections Assessor reports scanned in to and approved online. Sunday 5 May 2019 – Compulsory Training Day Friday 17 May – Saturday 18 May 2019 – Local Practice Expedition in Wymondley Friday 28 – Saturday 29 June 2019 – Hertfordshire based Qualifying Expedition

24 What next? Any outstanding forms details on edofe need to be completed ASAP Students should have started and be up and running with their volunteering/physical/skill sections Support students in their sections Any worries/questions please do come and find us!
