WHAT IS A NOUN? - A NOUN IS A WORD or GROUP OF WORDS THAT IS USED TO NAME A PERSON, A PLACE, A THING, OR AN IDEA.

PERSONS: Mrs. Perkins, teacher, chef, principal
PLACES: Grand Canyon, city, kitchen, Florida THINGS: lamp, granite, Nobel Prize, puzzle IDEA: happiness, self-control, liberty, bravery

Common Nouns A common noun names any one of a group of persons, places, things, or ideas and is generally not capitalized. EXAMPLES: girl, writer, country, cd, book, language, city

ABSTRACT NOUNS HINT: All ideas (noun ideas) are abstract!
Abstract nouns are IDEAS, QUALITIES, and FEELINGS. Can’t see it, can’t hear it, can’t touch it, can’t smell it, and can’t taste it.

CONCRETE NOUNS Things that you can recognize with your five senses.
HINT: If you can touch it, hear it, smell it, taste it, or see it, that means it is a CONCRETE NOUN.
