Mr./Mrs. Speaker Introduces debate topic, rules and each debater
Thanks each debater after they deliver their argument Controls the flow of the debate (who speaks, Rules) Can seek Guidance from the Head judge in the room to make rulings Decisions are final

Example “Point of Order/ Point of Privilege”
“You may rise. What is your point?” “Thank you Mr./Mrs. speaker” (ending of each speech.) “Thank you (role), now I call upon (next role) to rise and speak.” sound professional, and polite

Defines terms of the resolution Outlines the government’s argument Details points and provides evidence or support Provides background information; references for arguments

Prime minister At the end of the debate:
Summarizes why the government’s argument must ultimately stand May rebut final arguments from opposition Provides no new information

Minister of the crown Rebuts the oppositions argument
States why the oppositions argument must fail Rebuilds the governments argument and summarizes why is still stands May Bring up a couple new supporting points for the governments argument

timer Times all arguments, indicates to debaters during their addresses how much speaking time remains Allows extra time for interruptions Advises adjudicators of time faults at the end of each round

Rebuilds the oppositions arguments against the resolution Rebuts arguments and evidence raised by the minister of the crown Reinforces the rebuttal made by the member of the opposition

Must do two things: Rebuts all points raised by the primer minister in support of the government’s argument Summarizes why the government’s resolution must fail May propose a counter-plan to that of the governments; however not required or faulted for not doing this
