8 Queensland Core Skills Test
A common statewide test for Queensland Year 12 students Grounded in the Queensland senior curriculum (Common Curriculum Elements) Accessible to all Year 12 students regardless of individual differences in subject choices The QCS test is developed by Queensland educators for Queensland students

9 QCS Program Students intending to sit for the QCS test will have QCS preparation lessons every week. Tailored program – Senior experienced teachers Feedback from external markers Two full QCS tests- end of Term 1 and end of Semester 1 Vital aspect of Year 12 The program has been designed to address both strength and weaknesses identified by QCS trails conducted last year. Students should not schedule appointments during this time.

10 Student Interviews All Year 12 students will be interviewed in the next two weeks regarding their academic attainment at end of Year 11. They are for all students in Year 12. Students on OP pathway will receive an OP ‘guestimate’. NB these are not an OP prediction The interviews are conducted by College Leadership members, Academic Mentor, Pathways Coordinator and Student Data and Analyst. Interviews are to discuss student performance at the end of Year 11- to identify areas for attention. This may be results study habits, work or co- curricular involvement. Parents need to contact me as soon as possible if they have any concerns that they feel needs to be raised at this time. The OP guestimate is just that. It is based on the information that we have form the students performance in their subjects at the end of Year 11 and that may change in Year 12. It uses historical data from the QCS performance of Loreto cohorts in the subject groups applicable to the students subject selection, over the past five years,

11 Bubble graphs will be sent home with the letter indicating the OP guesstimate range

12 Special Provision The responsibility for making decisions about special provisions lies directly with the schools. (QCAA)

13 Important Points • Special provisions is a positive act of making reasonable adjustment to assessment requirements and conditions to ensure that assessment is equitable for all students. • Reasonable adjustments for students with specific educational needs must be planned and negotiated as early as possible so that students can be provided with appropriate support in order to commence, participate and complete course of study requirements.

14 Important Points (continued...)
Special provisions involve the application of relevant syllabus criteria and standards against which achievement is judged. Assessment criteria and standards are not modified to suit particular students. Assessment criteria and standards are not modified to suit particular students. The school is required to maintain the intent and rigour of the syllabus or study area specification and any other requirements or components that are inherent or essential to the course of study. Special provisions do not involve compensating for what the student does not know or cannot do.

15 Procedures for Special Provision
If a student needs to access Special Provision for any reason they, or if they are unable to so, parents should contact: Mrs Linda Carstensen Deputy Principal- Curriculum and Technology Students will need documentation in the form of a medical certificate or other document from another appropriate person. Adjustments to assessment will be made in consultation with the Curriculum Leader to ensure that the mandated aspects of the syllabus is covered.

16 Things to Remember for Successful Study
Use your diary/calendar, wall or desk planner to put in dates, drafts Planning Make notes; Fill in a weekly schedule- LMS Organisation Same time /same place Time and Place Do the work that is due tomorrow first, Maths every day etc. Routine/Habit Urgent, Important, Unimportant Priorities I won’t dwell on this but because it so important I think it is worth a recap!

17 High School and Mindsets
You have to manage a number of outside activities, manage an number of different expectations Assessment marking becomes more regulated and demanding The work becomes more challenging Sometimes results start to decline as a result of all the challenges but more so in students who have a fixed mindset.

18 Problem Solving WHAT EXACTLY IS THE PROBLEM? Make sure you know what it is!   WHAT END RESULT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE? Decide on what “success” means to you.   COLLECT INFORMATION What are the facts? Who / What can help? (Teachers, books, time, etc.) What are your priorities?   While Mrs Kearny talked about planning I would like to talk very briefly about problem solving. Year 12 will present some problems. A change of language to see problems as opportunities for growth may not always be the thing that your daughter wants to hear but it is important.

19 Problem Solving (Continued…)
4. DECIDE WHAT HAS TO BE DONE How will you achieve your aim?  5. PLAN AHEAD When? How? Why?  6. ACT - Carry out your plan.  7. REVIEW Have you achieved what you set out to do? (Yes or No) Were you unsuccessful? (Go back to Number 1…) Did you fall short in any way? (Go back to Number 2…) Have you learned anything? (If not, why not…?)
